The ball seemed to hang in the air for an eternity before it was miraculously intercepted by safety Glen Edwards, who then lateraled it to “Mean” Joe Greene. Greene, in turn, lateraled it to defensive end John “Frenchy” Fuqua, who then handed it off to running back Franco Harris. Harris, with his remarkable speed and agility, ran the remaining 45 yards to score the game-winning touchdown and secure the Steelers’ spot in the AFC Championship game.
The play was nothing short of miraculous and has since been dubbed the “Immaculate Interception.”
